Time Capsule

Time Capsule This is a great way to capture a moment in time and there are many items you can add in your family or couple time capsule. Time capsules can be left in the ground from 5 to 100 years although obviously the longer you leave it, the less likely you are to be able to look back and reminisce. There are certain things you will need to consider when making a time capsule. Think about where you would like to bury it and make sure it's easy to find. Your vessel will need to be airtight and waterproof and shouldn't contain any items which will decay over a long period of time, unless they're put in an airtight plastic bag. Another fun thing to add in your time capsule is a letter to your older self, written by each of the contributors. This is just one of the wonderful ways to make memories that will last.

Photograph Albums

Photograph Albums This is the most obvious way to make memories: the good old fashioned photo album. It's easy to keep those photos on your smart phone or your Facebook page but there is nothing quite like the feel of the photograph or flicking through an old photo album on a cold winter afternoon. Organize your photo albums so that each one is concentrated on one aspect of your life.

3

Collage

Collage How about making a photo collage of your favorite snaps. This is great thing to do with a member of your family and you could create a memory board together, which is comprised of joyous memories and favorite quotes so that you can fill your life with more happiness. It's probably a good idea to make copies of any old photographs rather than cutting them up though!

Casts

Casts How about making a cast of your baby's hands or feet? This is a very cute memento of your child's first years. Baby casting kits are available online from sites such as kiddicare.com and there are a number of tutorials online for the kiddy casting novices amongst you. These casts can be framed and accompanied by an adorable photo of your little cherubs for all to coo over in years to come.

Drawings

Drawings Remember those drawings that your children did for you all those years ago (or a few days ago?!) You will look back at these in years to come and tip your head to one side as you note the fact your child had the artistic talent of a cluster of color blind hedgehogs trapped in a bag. I'm obviously kidding, those drawings that little Rosie did when she was five are adorable and should be kept safely. If not framed, they should be put in an album for safe keeping so that they can be taken out when Rosie brings home her first boyfriend (which is also what embarrassing baby photos are for!) The same goes for gifts which younger members of your family have lovingly made for you and remember to keep those painted rocks, pieces of pottery and brass rubbings.

Famous Quotes

To give oneself earnestly to the duties due to men, and, while respecting spiritual beings, to keep aloof from them, may be called wisdom.

Family Tree

Family Tree This is another great way to make memories. If you have watched Who Do You Think You Are? you will have seen celebrities doing the same thing, admittedly, sometimes with less than joyous consequences. With the advent of websites such as ancestry.com, looking back through the years and finding out about your relatives is easier than ever. How about looking back through your ancestors and creating your own family tree with pictures, which you can pass down each generation. See how far you can go back and marvel at your family history.

Letters

Letters It's important to keep correspondence and by that I don't mean emails. With the advent of the internet, the art of letter writing seems to have been superseded by the more immediate form of emailing, which is a shame. I have some very funny letters that my cousin used to write to me when she was sitting in lessons at school and was clearly very bored, which always make me smile. I also have letters from penpals which I have kept in an album. Looking back on these helps you to remember what was going on in your life and what was important to you then. It can also sometimes help you to put things into perspective in the present!

These are just some of the ways to make memories. Do you have any other ideas?
