1. Ruffles for Little Girls
We start this list of DIY swimwear to sew with something for a little girl. If you have a mermaid-in-training in your family, this ruffled piece is sure to make her even more excited about the warmer days ahead. Take note that this tutorial comes in two parts. Also, I think you can recreate the ruffle parts for your own one-piece if you don't have a little girl to sew for.
2. Halter Tankini
I am a huge fan of tankinis and I think I shall be taking inspiration from this particular DIY project. This comes in the form of several posts as well and will give you fantastic tips on how to sew the top and the bottom. I find the steps on adding the cups helpful. Of course, I love the fabric, too. Very summery!
3. Simple Ruffled One-Piece
This is a wonderful DIY swimwear project that looks so simple to do. In fact, if the gods of sewing bless me with stretchy fabric this weekend, I will be giving this one a go. You should, too. This looks like something that a beginner can tackle gracefully. Also, if you don't fancy the ruffled part, you can easily skip the steps for attaching them.
4. Sweet & Striped for Little Girls
Here we have another DIY swimsuit idea for little girls. I love the top part of this bright and sweet bathing suit. The whole project also looks quite easy to do. You can use your little girl's store-bought one-piece to create a pattern for this project.
5. Monokini
The tutorial for this monokini is stated in one of the replies of this Craftster forum. To make this trendy swimwear, you will be needing fabric (nylon/lycra blend will do), elastic thread, padding or cups, and braided elastic. You will also need a swimsuit hook for closure.
6. Knitted
How retro-licious! This is a knitting project and looks like it will take a long time to make. But if summer is still a month or so away in your corner of the world, you might still have time to whip this one up. Enjoy!
7. 3-in-1
This bathing suit tutorial is all sorts of clever. I love the sweet pink color used, too! Basically, you will learn to sew a bikini, a tankini, and a maternity swimsuit using the tutorial through the link. Quite perfect, especially for those who happen to be with child at the moment.
8. Pin up
How pretty! Not only do I love the dots, I also love that this is a one-piece, has side ruching, and has wide straps. Whether you like to hide your tummy or you want a swimsuit with great upper body support, this tutorial has got you covered.
I hope that these DIY swimwear tutorials inspire you to start sewing soon. If you know of other wonderful beach-related DIY projects, let us know. We'd love to hear about your crafting adventures, too.
