1. Slow down

One of the first things you can do when you want to work on improving your handwriting is to slow down. Most of us are in such a hurry when we write something. This leads to our handwriting looking messy and illegible. Slow down and see how much better it looks from that one small step. It will make a huge difference in almost everyone’s handwriting. I know that it dramatically improves mine.

2. Relearn Handwriting Correctly

A lot of the time, our handwriting looks bad because we are writing incorrectly. Somewhere along the line we learned some bad habits or started forming our letters wrongly out of choice. Either way, this part of your handwriting can be corrected if you go back and relearn how to write correctly. There are many different ways you can do this. You can simply google it or even pick up a basic handwriting workbook for children to help correct anywhere you have veered off course.

3. Practice

The best way to improve your handwriting is to practice it. You can do this when you sit and watch television in the evenings or whenever you have a free moment. It can actually be kind of fun. Practicing is different to the writing you do in your everyday life because you are more focused on it. And like anything else, the more you practice, the better you will get at it.

4. Try a Different Pen

Sometimes the ink pen that you are using makes a difference in your handwriting. For me, I prefer a very slim ink pen. Some people claim to do better with a larger pen. It is an individual preference. Only you know what works best for you.

5. Observe Others' Handwriting

It can be fun to look at the way that other people write. But it can also be helpful to look at their writing and watch them as they write. It might help you, especially if you are a person that learns by watching. Choose a person that has writing you admire and ask them to show you a few things. Or just watch them and see how they make their loops and swirls. It can be inspiring.

6. Observe Spatial Mistakes

Spatial mistakes are something that we make and that can really affect the overall quality of our handwriting. Are you leaving enough space in between your words or does it all look like it runs together? Is your writing too big? Is your writing too small? These are all questions that you should ask yourself when you are trying to improve your handwriting.

7. Relax

A lot of times our handwriting is not very pretty because we are so tense. I know for me, being a very intense girl on the normal day, my handwriting is naturally a bit aggressive. I tend to press very hard when I use an ink pen. I have to remind myself to relax and not push down so hard. Besides tiring out your hand quickly, it can also make your handwriting unattractive.

These 7 tips can help take your handwriting from ordinary to extraordinary. Have you ever wanted to improve your handwriting? What efforts have you tried?
