When it comes to buying essential oils, there are seemingly endless choices. Every oil has at least a dozen benefits and they hold a lot of antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They actually come from extracting or distilling the different parts of plants including leaves, flowers, roots, bark, resin and peels. But, even though they have a lot of benefits, try to follow some safety guidelines. For example, use caution when putting oils on your skin to avoid irritation and keep solutions containing essential oils out of reach from pets and kids. Here are 7 clever ways to use essential oils around the house that you should consider:

1. Repel Spiders and Rodents
If you want to keep spiders and rodents away from your house then just spray some peppermint oil mixed with water around doors and windows. You can also douse some cotton balls with peppermint oil and stuff them into the corners of your windows where spiders may be able to enter or in other places where you think rodents may be able to enter your house.
2. All-Purpose Spray
If you want to keep bacteria at bay on all your hard surfaces then just make an efficient all-purpose spray by using some essential oils. Just fill a bottle with distilled water, add a bit of vinegar and put in 20 drops of essential oils. You can add anything from lemon oil, tea tree oil or cinnamon oil to eucalyptus oil.
3. Carpet Freshener
If you want to freshen up your carpets then just make some carpet freshener using your favourite essential oils. Just mix two cups of baking soda with a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil, sprinkle that mixture onto your carpet and let it sit for approximately 15 minutes before cleaning.
4. Floor Cleaner
You can get your wood floors shining like new with the help of some homemade floor cleaner. Just fill a big jug with water and then add 30 drops of lemon essential oil, 1/4 cup castile soap and 1/4 cup vinegar. Then just combine a cup of this cleaner with a gallon of hot water every time you want to clean your floors.

5. Transform a Candle
Just by adding a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the hot melted wax near the wick after the candle has been burning for a few minutes, you will manage to make your entire house smell wonderful.

6. Invigorate Your Office
If you add a few drops of basil, orange, ylang-ylang or jasmine essential oil to a diffuser, you will invigorate your entire office. You can also create a relaxing environment in your lobby or break room by adding a few drops of lavender, bergamot, chamomile or cedar wood to a diffuser.
7. Dissolve Stubborn Substances
Lemon oil has a lot of wonderful uses around the house and one of the most amazing ones is the fact that it can even dissolve stubborn substances like wax, chewing gum, oil or glue. You can also use lemon oil to disinfect your dish sponge between uses.
