7 Ways to Get Spa like Treatments at Home ...

By Artti

Going to the spa is expensive, but you can get spa like treatments at home for a fraction of the cost. Although we love to go to the spa to relax, we mostly love going to the spa because of the way we look afterwards. However, it’s easy to get the same look at home if you’re creative enough! Here are some spa like treatments at home to help improve your appearance.

1 Oil and Sugar

One way to get spa like treatments at home is by exfoliating your body. Ever wanted to try a full body microdermabrasion? Me too! Do you have the money for it? Me neither. Instead, a homemade alternative is brown sugar (or white, if necessary) and oil. Stir together extra virgin olive oil and brown sugar. Then, gently rub the mixture over your body in small circles – don’t rub for too long or else your skin will become sensitive and irritated. After you’ve exfoliated your body, take a hot shower to rinse off the homemade scrub. Once you’ve finished your shower, make sure to immediately moisturize your body with a super hydrating lotion. Repeat this process once a week and your skin will be smooth and glowing.

2 Mayonnaise

Most of us are guilty of styling our hair with heat! A great way to add moisture back to your hair is by slathering your hair and scalp in mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is high in fat and oils, which make it a great conditioner! For an even more natural alternative, whisk olive oil and eggs together to make an all natural, homemade, mayonnaise-like substance that doesn’t have all the preservatives and add-ins of store bought mayonnaise. On your day off, massage mayonnaise thoroughly to your hair and scalp and let it sit for 60-90 minutes, then wash off in the shower!

3 Lemon Juice

Have dark spots caused by pimples? Try lemon juice! Lemon juice has natural lightening agents so it can lighten dark spots! Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a small bowl and dip a Q-tip into the bowl. Gently press the Q-tip onto the dark spot for 3 second intervals – do not do more than 5 intervals per day! Results will not appear immediately but it’s better to do it gently and gradually rather than over-bleach certain parts of your skin!

4 Epsom Salt

Take a bucket of lukewarm water and add Epsom salt (found in local drugstores). Let your feet rest in the solution until the water is below room temperature. For best results, repeat in the same sitting. To help get visible results, gently exfoliate your feet while in the Epsom salt solution. When all is said and done your feet should be softer and more hydrated!

5 Homemade Mask

Rather than opting for drugstore facial masks that have fragrances, dyes and other additives, make your mask at home! I recommend the following ingredients for a homemade mask: green tea (reduces inflammation), soy bean (evens out skin tone), peppermint (soothes skin), blueberries (detoxifies) and avocado (hydrates skin). The previously mentioned ingredients make for a great, well balanced, natural face mask and if you’re making it in a large quantity, you and your girlfriends can experiment during your next girls' night in!

6 Nail Stickers

Do you have two left hands? It probably makes painting your nails difficult. Instead of risking nail polish all over your fingertips, try nail stickers! Nail stickers, found in many local drugstores, are stickers that you attach to the whole of your fingernails and file off the remaining product. As a result, you’ll have nails that look like you got a professional manicure as many of these nail stickers come in a variety of colours and designs.

7 Fake Glow

Sometimes you just got to fake it until you make it! For when your skin is looking dull and you don’t have time exfoliate it, body shimmers (which come in powder, cream and spray forms) are a great way to add life back in to your skin! Other great cheats are highlighting sticks or bronzers!

It’s always rewarding to your bank account when you can find cheaper alternatives to the spa! Although the spa is relaxing, it can wreak havoc on your bank account! What are other cheap alternatives to going to the spa for a spa like glow?
