Ask to be put on their email list, and you will probably encounter a group of people just like you, who are trying to get their feet wet in the kitchen without drowning. Cooking is an activity that is much more than a hobby, but it can still be so much fun. If a class is not your style, why not pick up one of the many cookbooks at your local bookstore and give some recipes that interest you a try?

4. Writing

As they say, in writing the first words are always the hardest. But once you get started, it's hard to stop. There are so many things you can write, from fiction to family stories. You may think you're starting out with the poem, and end up with a novel! Writing is free, can be done at any time of the night or day, and anywhere. For sheer possibilities, writing is a tremendous hobby!

Bead stores these days are holding class in how to make earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and more. If buying earrings are one of those things you always took for granted, why not stop into your local rock or bead store, and ask for a class schedule? At the very least, you would be making a new memory!

There is a wine out there for almost everyone. Learning how to enjoy the ones which speak to you, and how to acknowledge the quality of wine while you meet people who share your new hobby is a beautiful experience. Whether you are a white drinker, red drinker, or novice, learning about wine responsibly is a hobby that only gets better with time.

Woodworking is a hobby that has been around practically as long as wood has! These days, the tools that are available to the novice woodworker can make almost anything from a beautiful magazine rack to an heirloom table. Perhaps you will start off making a spoon and end up making a dresser, after your hobby turns into a passion. That's the thing about hobbies - they can take on a life of their own.
