9 Popular Pinterest Tips That Were Total Fails ...

Have you ever wondered if all the super popular Pinterest tips really work? Some of them sound way too good to be true, so I had to do some research into whether these popular Pinterest tips and tutorials were really legit. You know, those household tips that seem way too easy or so far out there that they seem highly suspect? It’s very possible that a certain Pinterest tip just didn’t work out for certain people. I know many people have had success with the brownies/cake in a mug while others say it’s a total fail. With that said, if you’re a hardcore Pinterest fan like myself, take a look at some of these Pinterest fails before you try any new tips out!

Baking Pan Cleaning with Peroxide and Baking Soda

Baking Pan Cleaning with Peroxide and Baking Soda Some of the most popular Pinterest tips are cleaning tips. I’m sure you’ve seen tons of seemingly helpful tricks on making household chores and cleaning so much easier. This Pinterest tip suggests combining baking soda and peroxide to clean baking pans and making them look close to brand new! One blogger was amazed at the after photos on Pinterest and tried it out for herself. She reported scrubbing for close to two hours and while her pans had less grime, she believes it’s only because of the elbow grease!

Opening Clamshell Packaging with a Can Opener

Opening Clamshell Packaging with a Can Opener You know those frustrating packages that razors and some electronic products come in? I think it’s a great deterrent against theft, but it drives everyone else crazy when it’s time to open it up and you don’t have a chainsaw nearby! Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but it’s a chore to open them up. A Pinterest tip suggests using a can opener to open these clamshell packages up. It makes sense, but unfortunately for many it was a big fat Pinterest fail!

Getting Rid of Toilet Bowl Rings with a Magic Eraser

Getting Rid of Toilet Bowl Rings with a Magic Eraser I’ll be the first to admit, if there is anything that can making cleaning bathrooms easier, I’m all for it! Magic Erasers have never really impressed me, but I know they’re a godsend for some households, so this Pinterest tip sounded amazing. Unfortunately, this trick didn’t live up to the hype. Supposedly, you can cut off a piece of a Magic Eraser and let it float in the toilet to get rid of rings. Turns out you actually have to scrub to get this trick to work.

Use a Wooden Spoon to Prevent a Pot of Water from Boiling over

Use a Wooden Spoon to Prevent a Pot of Water from Boiling over This next popular trick isn’t exactly a Pinterest fail; it works, just not all the time. I’ve actually tried using a wooden spoon to prevent a pot of water from boiling over in the past and it didn’t work for me. I chalked it up to my lack of domestic goddess genes but it turns out, it might not just be me! Stackexchange.com reported that the spoon can puncture the foam bubbles for a couple of different reasons, but it’s not a sure thing. Replace Sriracha Tops with a Spray Bottle Top

Replace Sriracha Tops with a Spray Bottle Top If you’re one of the many Sriracha devotees out there, this next tip might seem like a dream come true. Imagine being able to spray entire dishes with the magic hot sauce with just one simple move. Sounds good, right? I’m sad to report that while it might work for awhile, the spray bottle nozzle will eventually get clogged up. The beloved condiment is just too thick for a traditional nozzle!

Negative Calorie Foods

Negative Calorie Foods So this next Pinterest fail isn’t necessarily a tip, but it’s a lie. I’m sure you’ve seen some of the many fitspo and health and fitness pins, but the negative calorie ones are some of the worst! As much as I’d like to believe that there are foods that are difficult to digest which result in weight loss, experts have denied their existence. According to an article in Time by Dr. Nancy Snyderman, “The calories your body burns in fueling the digestive cycle are minuscule compared with the calories in the food itself.” For more on the article, go here: content.time.com.

Using PAM to Dry Wet Nails

Using PAM to Dry Wet Nails This is another one of those tips that can work for some. I’ve written about this Pinterest tip in the past since it’s worked for some people I know. What I didn’t know was that it didn’t work for a bunch of other people, as evidenced by the many unhappy people online. The tip is to use PAM or another setting spray to dry wet nails. Ladies have reported that this trick just didn’t work and their nails were just as wet post-PAM.

Beachy Waves in Less than 5 Minutes with a Flat Iron

Beachy Waves in Less than 5 Minutes with a Flat Iron Loose, beachy waves are one of those hairstyles that we all aspire to achieve at some point in time. They look so effortlessly chic and look great on all types of hair. So, when there was a pin that showed you how to create pretty beachy waves minus any texturing products, many girls were all over it. The trick is to twist a section of hair and go over that section with a flat iron, and you’re left with soft waves. Soft waves were not the result that many girls achieved! This trick merely left hair looking crimpy and frizzy.

DIY Self-tanner with Cocoa Powder and Lotion

DIY Self-tanner with Cocoa Powder and Lotion I’m a huge fan of DIY beauty products. If I can make something that I regularly use at home with more natural ingredients, I’m all for it. According to Pinterest, you can make a self-tanning lotion by mixing cocoa powder and lotion. Turns out you have to apply a couple of coats of the concoction before you see any color, however it’s still splotchy and very unnatural!

Have you ever tried any of the above tips or tricks? I still love Pinterest and while I might not believe everything I read, it’s still entertaining and a great way to learn about new things! Have you ever experienced a Pinterest fail? We’d love to hear about some of your experiences!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Well, we should\'ve learned from Monica on Friends what true beach hair really is...

So thankful for this.

The beach waves only work if your straightener has a curved side. Not one of those rectangle ones! And you have to train you hair and whatever one side will do you have to then match why it will do (if that makes any sense).

I tried the Pam and nails one and it didn't work at all! it just made the nail polish go everywhere.

I curl my hair with a flat iron and it works, it just takes practice!

The magic eraser worked for me!!!
